In April 2020, the national output of electrolytic nickel was 14400 tons, down 7.63% from the previous month and an increase of 14.55% over the same period last year. The decrease in production in April was mainly due to the scheduling and production of some domestic smelters in accordance with the financial monthly cycle. Although the scheduling and completion of the manufacturers did not change much in March and April, after being converted into natural monthly production, the amount taken into account in April was lower than that of the previous month. At present, most of the domestic smelters are in good condition: Gansu smelters have steadily completed the scheduling plan with a monthly output of 13000 tons in the near future; the monthly output of Xinjiang smelter has increased slightly compared with the first quarter and is expected to remain stable next month; the output of electrolytic nickel in Jilin and Shandong smelters is also stable, while the output of Tianjin smelter has not changed much this month, but in the later stage, due to raw material costs and profits, the scheduling may be gradually reduced. Guangxi smelter still suspended electrolytic nickel production line. In May, domestic production of electrolytic nickel is expected to be 15100 tons. Although the overseas raw materials of individual enterprises have been affected, the domestic production environment is improving, and nickel prices are rebounding, and total domestic production will remain stable.

[Nickel Industries: Acquisition of 17.5% Stake in PT TMI Project, MHP to Commence Production in Mid-2027] On June 24, 2026, Nickel Industries announced that it had agreed to invest $169 million to acquire a 17.5% stake in the PT Teluk Metal Industry HPAL project (TMI). The TMI project is located within the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) and is being developed as an expansion of the ENC project at the same site, producing mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) for the EV battery supply chain. Nickel Industries holds a 17.5% stake in the project, a Korean-Japanese consortium (comprising LS MnM, Hanwa, and an undisclosed strategic investor) holds a 72.5% stake, and another Singapore-based investment company, Sumber International Investment, holds a 10% stake. TMI is currently under construction and is expected to commence production in mid-2027. TMI has an annual nominal capacity of 38,640 mt Ni, providing Nickel Industries with attributable production of approximately 6,775 mt Ni per year (in the form of MHP).
